Twelfth-parts, also called dodekatemoria, project the exact degree within a natal sign through a finer zodiacal sequence. They are a derived layer of the nativity, not extra planets and not a replacement chart. Stelliums keeps every result beside the planet’s original longitude.
Why two results appear
The surviving tradition is not uniform. The Dorothean sign-start method multiplies the degrees within the natal sign by twelve and counts that arc from the beginning of the sign. Paulus preserves a thirteenfold version; because the first copy of the within-sign distance returns to the natal point, this can also be understood as adding twelve times that distance to the original point.
- Dorothean sign-start: sign start + 12 × degrees within the natal sign.
- Paulus point-origin: sign start + 13 × degrees within the natal sign.
- Normalize every result into the 360-degree tropical zodiac.
- Locate the derived longitude in the original natal Whole Sign frame; do not calculate new angles or sect.
Governed worked example
Worked example: the Dallas Sun
The frozen Dallas Sun is 25°21′ Capricorn. The Dorothean ×12 projection is 4°15′ Scorpio; the Paulus ×13 projection is 29°36′ Scorpio. Both derived positions fall in natal Whole Sign House 7 and are ruled by Mars, but they remain two separately sourced calculations.
Worked comparison across all seven planets
- Moon: Dorothean 10°28′ Taurus, House 1; Paulus 1°21′ Gemini, House 2.
- Mercury: Dorothean 13°52′ Taurus, House 1; Paulus 25°01′ Taurus, House 1.
- Venus: Dorothean 6°17′ Aquarius, House 10; Paulus 6°49′ Aquarius, House 10.
- Mars: Dorothean 1°13′ Leo, House 4; Paulus 21°20′ Leo, House 4.
- Jupiter: Dorothean 10°01′ Leo, House 4; Paulus 13°21′ Leo, House 4.
- Saturn: Dorothean 28°09′ Cancer, House 3; Paulus 15°30′ Leo, House 4.
How to inspect the layer
- Establish the natal chart, sect, rulers, and planetary condition first.
- Open the comparative workbench and keep the natal position visible.
- Name the projection method whenever citing a derived placement.
- Inspect the derived sign, natal-frame place, and sign ruler as additional testimony.
- Return to the natal evidence before making a synthesis.
